Mardjetko Named SEC Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Carolina softball pitcher Sage Mardjetko has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference (April 30).

She is the first Gamecock freshman to earn Player of the Week honors since Karsen Ochs in February of 2020.

Mardjetko capped off the weekend by throwing her first career complete game shutout, helping Carolina to a 3-0 win over No. 21 Kentucky Sunday. In seven innings, she struck out seven while scattering five hits and two walks. She got out of two tough jams when Kentucky put runners on second and third in both the third and sixth innings. In the sixth, she got back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning.

She also came on in relief in Saturday night’s game, where she got out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the sixth.

South Carolina hosts USC Upstate tomorrow at 6 p.m.
