Torbert Leads Carolina at Royals Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Oct. 6, 2023) – South Carolina Cross Country concluded its final 5K event of the 2023 season, competing in the 2023 Royals Challenge in Charlotte, N.C. on Friday afternoon.

Freshman runner Emma Torbert ran the fastest time for the Gamecocks, posting a time of 19:14.71 to finish 62nd overall. Ally Wilson was the second Gamecock to place inside the Top-100 in a field of 250 runners, clocking a time of 19:23.27 to finish 71st overall.

Katerina Hendrix, Kathleen Abrams and Greta White rounded out the top five Gamecock runners. Hendrix posted a time of 19:59.48, while Abrams ran 20:07.12 in her season debut. White, the freshman sister of sophomore runner Maddie White, made her collegiate debut on Friday and clocked 20:12.73 in her first collegiate cross country event.

South Carolina will close out the regular season portion of its schedule on Saturday, Oct. 14 when they compete at the XC 23 Pre-Nationals 6K event in Charlottesville, Va. The event will be hosted by Virginia and ran at the site of the 2023 Cross Country National Championship.
