Gamecocks Finish Fifth at Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate

Frankie Harris earns runner-up medalist honors falling on third playoff hole to secure outright victory

AWENDAW, S.C. – South Carolina finished fifth at the 18th edition of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The Gamecocks shot 284 (-4) to pick up 10 crucial, head-to-head victories for postseason play including the team’s second win over No. 16 ETSU this spring.

Redshirt sophomore Frankie Harris and freshman Bo Carpenter paced Carolina in round three, each shooting 68 (-4). Harris was runner-up medalist as he tied for the 54-hole lead with Missouri’s Jack Lundin and LSU’s Jay Mendell at 6-under (210) thru 54 holes. Lundin defeated Harris on the third playoff hole. Mendell was knocked out after the first playoff hole.

Carpenter climbed 28 spots on the leaderboard to finish T-41st at 4-over for the tournament. He and Harris each made six birdies today and posted bogey free front nines.

Junior transfer Laurens Schulze-Doering recorded his first career top-20 finish in Division I with a final round 72 (E) to finish T-19th at even par for the tournament. He birdies the final two holes to finish strong today. Senior Rafe Reynolds was the final counting score with a 76 (+4). Sophomores Zach Adams and Gene Zeigler each shot 78 (+6).

LSU shot 1-under to win the team title by six shots over No. 19 New Mexico. College of Charleston posted the round of the day with a 7-under 281.

The Gamecocks will conclude the regular season in two weeks at the Tiger Intercollegiate (April 8-9) hosted by Missouri at The Club at Old Hawthorne. The SEC Championship awaits after April 24-28 at Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga.
