🏀 2025 SEC Tournament Recap
Gamecocks Power Past Tennessee Tech to Open March Madness
Freshman Joyce Edwards scored 22 points in her first women’s NCAA Tournament game as No. 1 seed South Carolina began its run at a second straight national title with a 108-48 victory over Tennessee Tech on Friday.
The Gamecocks (31-3) improved to 17-1 in the past four women’s tournaments, winning in 2022 and 2024. The lone defeat came to Caitlin Clark and Iowa in the national semifinals in 2023.
Gamecocks Head to Sweet Sixteen for 11th Straight Year
Bree Hall had 11 points and Chloe Kitts scored all her 10 points in the second half as top seed South Carolina pulled away after trailing at halftime to beat ninth-seeded Indiana 64-53 on Sunday in the women’s NCAA Tournament and reach the Sweet 16 for the 11th straight time.
Kitts added 11 rebounds for the Gamecocks (32-3), who will take on either fourth-seeded Maryland or fifth-seeded Alabama in the Birmingham 2 Regional next week. Those teams play Monday night.
South Carolina outlasts Maryland 71-67 in March Madness
MiLaysia Fulwiley scored 23 points, including a go-ahead layup with 2:22 left, and Chloe Kitts added 15 points and 11 rebounds to help No. 1 seed South Carolina beat fourth-seeded Maryland 71-67 on Friday in the Sweet 16 of the women’s NCAA Tournament.
The defending national champion Gamecocks went back-and-forth with the Terrapins all game before finally doing enough in the final few minutes to put it away.
South Carolina returns to Final Four, beating Duke 54-50
Chloe Kitts scored 14 points and defending national champion South Carolina reached the Final Four of the women’s NCAA Tournament for a fifth straight year, beating Duke 54-50 on Sunday.
Coach Dawn Staley’s top-seeded Gamecocks are two wins away from becoming the first team to repeat as champions since UConn won four straight from 2013-16. South Carolina will play the winner of the Texas-TCU game that takes place Monday night.
South Carolina uses depth to reach NCAA title game
Lacking a true superstar like coach Dawn Staley’s previous title-winning teams, South Carolina used its depth, led by freshman Joyce Edwards, to wear down Texas and advance to the championship game of the women’s NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season.
The Gamecocks’ reserves scored 35 points in their 74-57 win over the Longhorns on Friday night.
Gamecocks Finish Season as National Runner-Up
No. 2/2 South Carolina dropped an 82-59 decision to No. 3/3 UConn in the 2025 NCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship game at Amalie Arena. The Gamecocks finished the season with a 35-4 record and National Runner-Up honors for the first time in their four National Championship game appearances.
