COLUMBIA, S.C. – Devan Downey from the Gamecock men’s basketball team has been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week.

Downey, who leads the SEC in scoring in both league games (21.5) and overall (19.8), scored the game-winner for the Gamecocks against Alabama on Saturday. With 14 seconds to play and South Carolina trailing 65-63, Downey converted a four-point play to give Carolina the win. He finished the game with 29 points and a career-best six threes.

Downey has tallied 20-plus points in 13 games this season and done it in eight of 10 SEC games. Additionally, he has made at least four assists in 17 games and recorded three or more steals in 16 contests. He is one of 16 finalists for the Cousy Award.
