South Carolina Head Coach Susan Walvius
“I thought Penn State was more aggressive than we were tonight. We wanted to go inside and take advantage of post play. We did not do that in the first half. We’re frustrated with rebounds, turnovers, and transition defense. In the second half I felt that we played hard. We were more aggressive offensively and defensively, and we got the stops that we wanted to get. Penn State did a better job of getting to the free throw line, and they worked harder. Even though we out-rebounded them, they got more shots, more high- percentage shots than us. We’re disappointed.”
On play in the second half “I’m proud of them. We got the shots that we wanted. I’m not proud of how we started. That’s going to happen with the younger players controlling the ball. Sometimes it’s hard for younger players to take control of a team, but we think that will come. The younger players have to learn the importance of transition defense, but that will come.”
“I’m proud of the team for their effort. I’m proud of how we played in the second half. We came back strong. Our shots just didn’t fall.”
South Carolina Player Quotes
Brionna Dickerson • G • Jr.
“It’s definitely tough to work so hard coming back. We need to focus harder from the beginning.”
“Fatigue is always a factor with any comeback. We need to start tough in the beginning instead of having to have a sense of urgency at the end of the game.”
Courtney Newton • G • Fr.
“We need to come out with fight in the beginning instead of the end. Coming out strong is something we’re going to work on.”
