Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina baseball team has been tabbed No. 4 in the nation in the latest Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America rankings released on Monday afternoon (February 19). Carolina hosts a three-game series vs. Eastern Michigan this weekend at Sarge Frye Field. The home opener on Friday (February 23) is set for 3 pm with Saturday and Sunday’s games at 1:30 pm.

WEEKEND RECAP
South Carolina won two of three games at the Crab House Shootout (Charleston, S.C.).) to improve to 5-1 on the year … Carolina defeated Liberty 10-2 and Richmond 9-2 before falling to The Citadel 7-6 … Dating back to the 2000 season, South Carolina is 72-3 (.960) in the month of February … The South Carolina offense scored 25 runs in three games over the weekend with the team recording an on-base percentage of .505 including 25 hits, 31 walks and four hit by pitches in three games … Carolina had 12 hits in the Friday win over Liberty, with nine players tallying at least one in the contest.

DARNELL
Sophomore infielder James Darnell struck with the hot bat over the weekend batting .400 with a two-run homer in all three games and six RBI overall … He is batting .353 this season with a team-high four home runs and eight RBI.

SMOAK
Sophomore first baseman Justin Smoak also was productive at the plate batting 4-for-9 with a homer, three RBI and four runs scored along with seven walks … Smoak had an on-base percentage of .688 this past weekend.

CHISENHALL
Freshman Lonnie Chisenhall owns a six-game hitting streak to start the year and has a multi-hit game in five of the six contests … Chisenhall went 6-for-14 with five runs scored this weekend … He leads the team with a .464 batting average (13-for-28) this season.

DISHER
Junior Phil Disher had a pair of RBI doubles in Saturday’s win over Richmond and drove in six runs over the weekend … Disher is .409 on the year (9-for-22) with six of his nine hits, extra base hits (four doubles, two homers).

ON THE MOUND
On the mound, the Gamecocks own a 2.62 team ERA after six games with 58 strikeouts in 55 innings.

HONEYCUTT
Junior right-hander Harris Honeycutt won his second straight game and is now 10-0 in his career with the Gamecocks … Honeycutt worked 5.1 innings and allowed two runs in four hits in Friday’s win over Liberty.

BROWN
Junior right-hander Jay Brown also won his second straight game this year as he worked six innings allowing two runs on six hits while striking out nine batters, the highest total by a Gamecock pitcher this year …

MORE ON PITCHING
The Carolina pitching staff struck out 28 batters in 26 innings pitched.

ATWOOD
Junior left-hander Will Atwood for the second straight game came out of the bullpen and had success on the mound … In 2.2 innings of relief work on Friday, he allowed no runs on two hits with four strikeouts.
