Tennessee Head Coach Rob Patrick:
“We talked about this match yesterday and thought the key to the match was who will play more consistently and that is the way it panned out. Both teams played very, very hard and unfortunately there had to be a winner and a loser. Even though we didn’t play our best volleyball we played very, very hard. The team put the responsibility on themselves to out work Georgia. I’ve coached for 20 years and this team is the most fun I’ve every coached in my life. They love to play volleyball.”
(With no seniors on the roster who did you look for to step up during the close match):
“That has been our weakness this year. Michelle (Piantadosi) did a great job. She has never been in a position of leadership and I’m proud the way she stepped up. The bench looks to Julie (Knytych) to get us through rough spots.”
(On facing Florida in the second round):
“That is why everyone of the kids comes to Tennessee; they came to play against the best teams in the country. We have made great strides; the kids look forward to and are excited to play. We are going out to compete for every single point.”
Amy Morris, Tennessee, Soph., Outside Hitter:
“It was a hard fought match by both teams. It was everything you’d want in a SEC Tournament match.”
(On facing Florida in the second round):
“We’re excited to play them again. We want to keep playing them because someone’s got to beat them I hope it is us.”
Georgia Head Coach Mary Buczek:
“We knew this would be a good matchup, we just came up short on kills in the end. I thought Tennessee adjusted well to our gameplan. We play a young starting lineup, the future is bright.”
Margot Wallace, Georgia, Jr., Setter:
“We put ourselves in the position of being in the toughest match of the tournament. It’s really tough being the 4th or 5th seed. While being young is not an excuse, we are getting better and it will be nice to have the same core group of players on the floor next year.”
