Gareis Named SEC Offensive Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Carolina forward Ryan Gareis has been named the SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference on Monday, October 3. The graduate student from Naperville, Illinois earns her second career SEC Player of the Week honor.

Gareis was pivotal for the 25th ranked Gamecocks in their 3-2 upset of 13th ranked Auburn Friday night (Oct. 1), scoring the game-winning goal and also earning an assist. It was her third multi-point game of the season and the second time in her career with a goal and an assist in a match.

She scored the game-winner in the 47th minute, beating her defender to a ball in the box off a pass from Lauren Chang. The goal was her first of the season and the seventh game-winner of her career.

Gareis earned an assist on Catherine Barry’s goal in the 20th minute, as she sent a crossing pass into the box that found Barry for the score. Gareis is tied for the team lead in assists with seven and ranks in the top-20 nationally.

Gareis and the Gamecocks return to action for a pair of matches this week, beginning with a road trip to Ole Miss, Thursday, October 7, at 7 p.m. ET. The squad returns home to Stone Stadium for a top-25 matchup against Tennessee on Sunday, October 10 at 2 p.m.
