Gamecocks Start Men's SECs on Tuesday

200 medley relay and 800 free relay finals slated for day one at 6 p.m. ET

COLUMBIA, Mo. — South Carolina is back in the postseason pool again this week with the SEC Men’s Swimming Championships (Feb. 23-26) at Mizzou Aquatic Center. Action begins Tuesday night at 6 p.m. ET with the finals of the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay.

All sessions of the men’s portion of the conference meet will be available for streaming on SEC Network+ with live results available through the MeetMobile App.

The women’s meet was held last week in Athens at Gabrielsen Natatorium with Kentucky coming out on top after four days of competition. This marks the first time in 35 years the SEC Championships will be held in separate venues. In 1986, the women’s swimming and diving championship was held in Knoxville, Tenn. and the men’s championship in Baton Rouge, La.

The Gamecock men will be short-handed this week as the full squad was not able to make the trip in adherence with COVID-19 protocols.

“Our men and women, like all college athletes, have intentionally changed their lifestyles and have sacrificed much of what is normal about college in order to make it through the season,” said head coach McGee Moody. “I have seen them struggle, fight and come back stronger through adversity all year. They have been flexible and resilient. For those reasons, I am proud beyond words. I am heartbroken for the men that have worked all year long to make it through to the conference meet and have now been told that they will not be able to travel or compete with their teammates. That being said, our primary concern is the health of those athletes. Through the highs and lows the past year has brought out world, we are proud to able to still represent our state’s flagship university in everything we do.”

On Wednesday through Friday, prelims will start at 11 a.m. ET with finals following at 7 p.m. A full breakdown of the swimming schedule with streaming (SEC Network+) and live stats links can be found by clicking here.
