Gamecocks Open Play Sunday at Legends Collegiate Invitational
South Carolina paired with Vanderbilt and Texas A&M in the first round
FRANKLIN, Tenn. — South Carolina is in the Music City for its second of three, all-SEC fall tournaments – the Legends Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 25-27). The 54-hole tournament will take place at the Vanderbilt Legends Club as the Commodores are the host school.
“The team has had a very productive past two weeks of practice and preparation,” said head coach Bill McDonald. “We’re looking forward to our second event of the fall and hoping to build off of a solid finish in Arkansas. Vanderbilt Legends Club is always in good condition and we know the competition is strong too. I’m particularly excited for freshman, Rafe Reynolds, who’s making his debut for us. Rafe has worked hard and he’s certainly earned this opportunity.”
The Gamecocks had a solid showing in the team’s first event of the season, the Blessings Collegiate Invitational back in early October. Carolina finished fourth in the 14-team all-SEC field after shooting 878 (+14) on a difficult track in Blessings Golf Club (Fayetteville, Ark.). Alabama won the tournament with a score of 868 (+4).
Four familiar faces will be in the lineup led by super senior Caleb Proveaux in the top spot. He T-6th at the Blessings shooting 2-under over 54-holes for his seventh career top-10. Junior Ryan Hall, super senior All-American Jamie Wilson, senior Jack Parrott and Reynolds round out the team’s five-man squad. Hall, who is from Knoxville, Tenn., will be playing back in his home state for the first time in a Gamecock uniform. Reynolds, a native of Greenville, S.C., will be making his debut in Garnet and Black. He had a solid showing recently at the Golfweek True Blue Amateur in Myrtle Beach back in mid-September. Reynolds shot 203 (-13) and finished solo second in the 91-man field.
Live scoring for the event will be available through Golfstat. Click here to follow along. The Gamecocks tee off at 10:50 a.m. ET on Sunday in the first round and will be paired with Vanderbilt and Texas A&M. Opening round pairings were based off team’s finishes at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational two weeks ago.
Team rankings via Golfstat are still not yet available. The first set of NCAA Division I team rankings will be released Nov. 16. The SEC will be well represented in the initial top-25 for the 2020-21 season.
