No. 3 Gamecocks Travel to No. 1 Auburn This Weekend
Columbia, S.C. – The No. 3 South Carolina equestrian team wraps up its SEC schedule with a trip to face the No. 1 Auburn Tigers this weekend. The action gets underway at Noon ET from the Auburn Equestrian Complex.
Last Time Out
The Gamecocks (6-4, 3-2 SEC) celebrated senior day in style with a 14-5 win over the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs. Junior Taylor Kellam earned the first Most Outstanding Player honor of her career with a 78.5-point horsemanship ride. Freshman Madeline Schaefer earned her third M.O.P. of the season with a score of 89 in over fences, and McKenzie Duncan also earned her third M.O.P. of the year after her 70 in reining.
Notes from the Farm
- Freshman Jordan Allen tallied the team’s highest over fences score of the season with 91 against Georgia. Allen is averaging a score of 85 in her rides and hasn’t scored below 80 in her career.
- Junior Louisa Brackett continues to be a revelation in over fences after her 90, tied for the second highest over fences score on the team this season, against Georgia. After opening the season with a 1-2 record Brackett has rattled off five straight wins and one M.O.P. win.
- Sophomore Grady Lyman improved to 6-3-0 on the flat with her win over Georgia. Lyman is riding a three-ride winning stream and leads the team with four M.O.P. awards.
- Freshman Natalie Vargo leads all Gamecock freshmen with eight wins, five in horsemanship and three in reining. After dropping her first horsemanship match of the season Vargo has won the next five, and she’s won two consecutive reining bouts.
Scouting the Tigers
Auburn (11-0, 4-0 SEC) enters the weekend undefeated after besting Baylor in its last meet, 15-4. McKayla Langmeier leads the Tigers with 20 wins, 10 on the flat and 10 over fences.
