Gamecocks Tied for Ninth at Tar Heel Invitational

Chapel Hill, N.C. – The South Carolina women’s golf team hit a rough patch as the first day of the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational came to close to end the day in a tie for ninth place.

“We were -4 today with five holes to play. Unfortunately, it was a rocky finish for our group today,” head coach Kalen Anderson said. “The course was very scoreable today, and we made too many sloppy mistakes today, especially in our finishing holes. This is a very talented team and we will be sharp and ready to rebound over the weekend.”

A trio of Gamecocks finished the day at 1-over with Ana Pelaez, Lois Kaye Go and Emily Price all tied for 35th place. Freshmen Mathilde Claisse and Pauline Roussin-Bouchard finished the day at 2-over, tied for 50th place. Roussin-Bouchard notched a team high four birdies on the day. In her first collegiate action freshman Smith Knaffle finished 4-over with one birdie.

The second round gets underway Saturday morning with Smith Knaffle teeing off at 9 a.m., and Mathilde Claisse getting things going for the Gamecocks competing as a team at 9:09 a.m.
