Gamecocks Hit The Road For UAB
Carolina returns to conference play on the road
COLUMBIA, S.C. —- South Carolina men’s soccer hits the road this weekend to return to conference play as it takes on UAB this Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET. Fans can catch the match on C-USA TV.
The Gamecocks will look to rebound from a hard fought 1-1 tie on Tuesday night at Stone Stadium against Georgia Southern. Carolina went 1-1-1 over the past week with a win over Presbyterian in the three-match home stand.
Carolina’s match against Presbyterian was a thriller from start to finish as CJ Mitchell-Smith’s second goal of the season, and contest, at the 62-minute mark and later Brian Banahan’s second finish of the night pushed the Gamecocks to the 4-2 win to snap a two-match losing streak.
Senior Tucker Monheimer will look to continue his quick start to his final year in the Garnet and Black on Saturday. Monheimer has finished four of the team’s 13 goals this year, three of which were game winners.
Head coach Mark Berson enters his 42nd season as head coach for Carolina. He’s been the only coach for the program since its first season in 1978. He is the active wins leader in NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer with 512 career victories and is one of just four coaches all-time to hit the 500-win plateau.

UAB SERIES NOTES
- Carolina leads the all-time series 14-5-1 and has won the past five matches.
- Carolina has outscored UAB 31-22.
- South Carolina is 6-1 all-time in Birmingham against UAB.
- UAB hasn’t won a game in the series since 2014 and hasn’t won in Birmingham since 2009.
- Carolina hasn’t allowed a goal in the series since 2014, holding five-straight shutouts.

- UAB comes in with a 1-8-1 record, including a 1-4-0 mark at home.
- The program has lost five-straight coming into the match on Saturday.
