Magnum Named NCEA Horse of the Month
Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina equestrian reining horse Magnum has been named the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Horse of the Month for September, NCEA officials announced on Monday.
In his lone appearance for the month Magnum earned Most Outstanding Player honors with McKenzie Duncan, scoring a 70 and helping the Gamecocks secure a season opening win over Fresno State.
“We are so fortunate to have Magnum in our program,” head coach Boo Major said. “The Mierzejewski’s bought him specifically to help our program and he has been amazing gift. We hope he is part of our program for many years to come.”
A vital part of the western team, Magnum is consistently used in practice for both reining and horsemanship. Through his time with the team he’s made the trip to nationals and to the SEC championship as well.
The Gamecocks return to the ring on October 25 when No. 1 Auburn comes to Blythewood. The meet between Carolina and the Tigers is set for a 2 p.m. start at OneWood Farm.
