Sellman and Petrie Earn SEC Honors

Columbia, S.C. –  A pair of Gamecocks brought home Southeastern Conference accolades as Madison Sellman and Tyler Petrie earned SEC Rider of the Month honors for the month of September, conference officials announced on Thursday.

“Very excited for Madison to be named SEC Rider of the Month,” head coach Boo Major said. “She’s certainly very deserving as one of our captains and has really turned into one of the leaders on our team both in and out of the ring. It’s exciting to see the SEC recognize her efforts, and hopefully we’ll see a lot more of this from her this season.”

Sellman came up clutch when the No. 6 Gamecocks needed her in the season opener against Fresno State, riding Tattoo to a score of 76, securing both Most Outstanding Player honors and a 3-1 win on the flat. This marks the first SEC Rider of the Month honor for the senior hailing from Honeoye Falls, N.Y.

“Tyler just keeps improving,” Major continued. “She is one of those riders that we’ll see a lot of this year so it’s exciting to see her already garnering these accolades from the SEC. We’re all very happy to see her get recognized.”

Petrie proved to be the difference maker with her 84-point ride over fences on Joe in the Fresno State meet. The Media, Ohio native bagged M.O.P. honors that day, and claims the first SEC Rider of the Month award of her career today.

The Garnet and Black look to keep things rolling this weekend with a trip down to Georgia to face the No. 3 Bulldogs. Action is set to get underway at 1 p.m. from the UGA Equestrian Complex in Bishop, Ga.
