Gamecocks Travel to Atlanta for Tuesday Doubleheader

The team faces Florida Gulf Coast and No. 2 Southern Cal as part of the Georgia State Day of Duals event

ATLANTA, GA. – South Carolina beach volleyball is back on the road for one more day of competition before opening its home schedule on Saturday, March 16, as the No. 10 Gamecocks go to the Georgia State Day of Duals on Tuesday. The team will face No. 2 Southern Cal at 10 a.m. ET, and Florida Gulf Coast at approximately 3 p.m.

Ranked in the top 10 in the national poll for the 16th-consecutive week, Carolina comes in with a 5-5 overall record – all five losses coming to nationally ranked opponents – and a 3-4 record in conference action. In its last competition, the Gamecocks did not drop a single set in wins over Coastal Carolina and UNCW on Saturday, March 9. Tuesday’s tournament will bring to a close a 12-match road trip through the first three weeks of the season, leading into the Gamecock Grand Slam on Saturday and Sunday.

Florida Gulf Coast opened its season last weekend and went 2-2 with wins over Saint Leo and UT-Martin. The Eagles are coming off a program-record 15 wins in 2018, and have three preseason all-conference returners leading the team in Karissa Rhoades, Katherine Puisis and Giovanna Borgiotti. Southern Cal is on a nine-game win streak, with the last six coming against elite East Coast teams. Over a four-day stretch, the Women of Troy defeated No. 4 Florida State twice, No. 6 LSU, No. 9 FIU and No. 15 Stetson, moving their record to 10-1 for the year. The team’s lone loss came to No. 1 UCLA. This is the fourth meeting between the Gamecocks and Southern Cal, the last time the two teams met was in the NCAA tournament in 2017.
