Grace Fisk Named All-American

The Gamecocks have had at least one All-American for six years in a row.

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina junior defender Grace Fisk has been tabbed a United Soccer Coaches Second-Team All-American, the coaching organization announced Thursday. The Gamecocks have had at least one All-American for six years in a row.

Fisk, who earned a spot on the First Team in 2017, becomes the fourth two-time All-American in school history. Fisk is third Carolina defender to earn the distinction, all of which have been under South Carolina head coach Shelley Smith.

“Being named an All-American is a huge honor, and I am grateful and appreciative to be thought of for the accolade,” Fisk said. “I am lucky to be in a great program with coaches and teammates who support and encourage me. For me, especially, I am proud of our defensive efforts this season and so I’d like to thank all my defensive teammates in particular.”

Fisk shined on the Carolina back line in her second season in Columbia. The South Carolina captain and two-time SEC Defensive Player of the Year helped the Gamecocks post the most shutouts in the SEC (12), and Carolina’s league-leading 0.56 goals against average ranks 13th in NCAA Division I. Fisk, a native of Bromley, London, has also contributed on the offensive end with three points. She netted the game-winner in Carolina’s 3-0 over Kentucky, heading home a goal off a corner kick in the 10th minute.

South Carolina finished the 2018 season in the NCAA Tournament round of 32 after defeating UNCG in the opening round at Stone Stadium. South Carolina’s 14 wins in 2018 marks the third-straight season with at least that many victories. The Gamecocks round of 32 appearance was also their third-straight.
