Notebook: Hill, Cortes Headline Publications' Preseason Projections

GAMECOCKS PICKED AS A REGIONAL TEAM BY D1BASEBALL.COM: In D1Baseball.com’s 2018 SEC preview, South Carolina was one of 10 conference teams picked to make a regional this season. The website picked the Gamecocks to finish fourth in the SEC East, behind Florida, Kentucky and Vanderbilt and ahead of Georgia, Missouri and Tennessee.

D1BASEBALL RANKS GAMECOCKS AS TOP PROSPECTS: The website also picked top prospects for the 2018 and 2019 MLB Drafts and a trio of Gamecocks were pegged as a top prospect for this June’s draft. Junior Adam Hill (13th), draft-eligible sophomore Carlos Cortes (18th) and redshirt sophomore Cody Morris (33rd) were on the top-50 list. Freshman Kyle Jacobsen (21st) was a top prospect for the 2019 draft as well as an impact freshman (12th in SEC). Classmates Noah Campbell (22nd) and Logan Chapman (26th) also were on the freshman list.

CORTES NAMED ALL-SEC BY PERFECT GAME: Sophomore Carlos Cortes was named to Perfect Game’s Preseason All-SEC team. Cortes was named the designated hitter on the team with Perfect Game highlighting his “excellent hit tool and barrel skills.”

BASEBALL AMERICA PICKS PEGS GAMECOCK DUO AS DRAFT PROSPECTS: In Baseball America’s 2018 SEC preview, the magazine listed junior Adam Hill (12th) and draft-eligible sophomore Carlos Cortes (14th) in the conference’s top-20 prospects for the 2018 MLB Draft. Freshman Kyle Jacobsen was named the ninth-best freshman in the league.
