Paul Jubb Advances in Niceville Futures

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Sophomore Paul Jubb advanced to the third round of the qualifying bracket at the Niceville ITF Futures on Saturday. The Great Britan native is one of five Gamecocks to play in individual tournaments this weekend. The other four, Thomas Mayronne, Yancy Dennis, Wood Benton and Thomas Brown, all competed at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga., where they participated in both the singles and doubles competition.
Thomas Mayronne defeated Abraham Asaba (Virginia Tech) in the second round of the bracket, 6-2, 6-4. He went on to play one-seed Carlos Divar (Georgia Tech), falling 6-4, 7-5. Yancy Dennis also started the day with a win over Virginia Tech’s Jason Kros, going 0-6, 6-1, 6-2. Dennis pushed his third round match to three sets, but fell to Virginia’s Matthew Lord 3-6, 7-5, 7-5.
After advancing to the second round of the competition, Wood Benton fell to Chase Bernstine of Virginia Tech, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. He then faced another Virginia Tech athlete, Feliksas Sakalauskas, falling 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (2). Thomas Brown took on Georgia Tech’s Philip Gresk, but was unable to top the number four seed, falling 6-2, 6-3.
South Carolina singles will compete again on Sunday. Mayronne and Dennis will face eachother at 10 a.m. Thomas Brown will play Virginia Tech’s Feliksas Sakalauskas at 11:30 a.m. Benton will face Jefferson Dockter from Virginia at the same time.
