Gamecocks Receive NCAA Public Recognition Award

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The NCAA announced today South Carolina women’s tennis received the NCAA Public Recognition Award, which is given to teams with an NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports for the 2015-16 academic year.

This is the first time the Gamecocks have earned the honor.

“When you get down to it, very few players will have the opportunity to make a living playing tennis,” head coach Kevin Epley said. “I couldn’t be prouder of the student-athletes here who not only work hard and perform on the court, but also in the classroom. A top-tier collegiate tennis player has a very difficult schedule to maintain, and to be honored at a national level for our academic success is an extraordinary accomplishment.”

In the 2015-16 year, South Carolina posted six to the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll (Hadley Berg, Megen Cochran, Caroline Dailey, Brigit Folland, Alison Mills and Ximena Siles Luna). Carolina also had five on the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll (Paige Cline, Ingrid Gamarra Martins, Rachel Rohrabacher, Hannah Templeton and Ellie Zogg).

Along with SEC academic recognition, the Gamecocks were also named an ITA All-Academic Team for the third-straight season, while seven were named ITA Scholar-Athletes (Dailey, Folland, Martins, Mills, Rohrabacher Templeton and Zogg). Additionally, the team posted above a 3.6 GPA for both the fall and spring semesters.
