Harris and USA U19 Team Open World Cup Saturday

COLUMBIA, S.C. ââ’¬” South Carolina guard Tyasha Harris and USA Basketball kick off play in the 2017 FIBA U19 World Cup for Women on Sat., July 22, in Udine, Italy. Harris, who helped the U.S. claim gold in the 2016 FIBA U18 Americas Championship, is looking to capture the Americans’ seventh-straight gold medal at the World Cup event.
Play in the 2017 FIBA U19 World Cup for Women runs through Sun., July 30 in Udine and Cividale del Friuli, Italy. The U.S. is in Group A and opens group play against Mali at 12:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. The Americans take on China at noon ET on Sunday and round out group action on Tuesday against Italy at 2:45 p.m. ET.
The tournament continues with round of 16 play on Wed., July 26, with medal quarterfinals on Friday, semifinals on Saturday and the final medal games on Sunday.

The U.S. team traveled to Italy last Saturday to play in the 2017 Refrion Cup, which the Americans won on Wednesday. Harris added 14 points, four assists and four steals in the title game victory over Latvia, 64-56. In the event’s three games, Harris drew two starts and averaged 9.3 points, 2.3 assists and 3.7 steals.
