Wilson Named SEC Freshman of the Week

Feb. 22, 2017

COLUMBIA, S.C.Jamie Wilson was named SEC Men’s Golf Freshman of the Week, league officials announced Wednesday afternoon, earning him his first career player of the week accolade.

The Mount Pleasant, S.C., native, made his debut in the starting lineup for the Gamecocks last weekend at the 2017 All-American Intercollegiate in Humble, Texas. Wilson finished tied for 32nd at 1-over and helped the team take home fourth place in the 18-team field.

He carded consecutive even-par 72s in the first two rounds and shot 73 (+1) in the final round on Sunday as all three of his scores counted in the lineup. Wilson led the team with 11 birdies and was one of just 25 players in the 96-man field to tally double-digit red numbers on his scorecard.

Carolina returns to the course on March 6-7 as it will look to defend its team title at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C. Last season, the Gamecocks shot 821 (-19) as a team to take home the tournament championship.
