Head Coach Chad Holbrook
Opening Statement
The story of the game was Wil Crowe and the way that he threw the ball. It was certainly impressive to sit out there in the dugout and watch him. He had command of the strike zone with all of his pitches and he threw the ball very, very well. As far as the game beyond that, we swung the bats really well. We put some really good swings on it and played really good defense behind Wil and the rest of our pitchers. It was just a really good game for our team and I couldn’t be more proud of them. We kind of pride ourselves on playing our best game of the weekend on Sunday and I think we did that.

On Wil Crowe’s performance in his first start
I don’t really remember [a debut] as impressive as that. It was a flawless six and a third innings allowing no runs, no hits, a walk and struck out five. He has a mentality; he has a presence about him that exudes confidence. He had it when we saw him pitch in high school and he’s had it ever since he stepped on campus. The kid believes in himself. You hate to put expectations on a freshman or a young kid. When we recruited him we thought he had the chance to be a special pitcher here and I hope that rings true but there’s a lot of time between now and then. I’m lucky that we have him for three years. He has to continue to get better. He’s going to have adversity strike, he’ll get knocked off his perch and I look forward to seeing how he responds to that, too. The kid is a bulldog.

On how good the team was offensively this weekend
I had a feeling, well I shouldn’t say I had a feeling we were going to score 41 runs. With these bats and the way college baseball has changed, I didn’t expect that, but I did think we had a chance to have some pretty good offensive players in the lineup. When I put the starters on the team last weekend when we played each other I think we scored nine runs both of those scrimmages against our guys, so I do feel good about our offensive team. We started a freshman today in the designated hitter spot, but we can be pretty old with the lineup we put on the field as far as experience. Coach Tanner always told me you win a lot more games with 21 and 22 year olds that you do with 18 and 19 year olds and that’s the truth. We can put some 21 and 22 year olds out there and you need to be old in this league.

Sophomore Infielder Max Schrock
On his homerun
I was just looking for my pitch and I saw it. I have to give some credit to Coach Brian Buscher for calming me down a little bit before the game. The last two games I was putting a little bit of pressure on myself. Coach Buscher is so good at talking to you and relating so I have to give him some credit for that homerun.

On Wil Crowe and his first college start
The word I like to use for Wil [Crowe] is that he’s a bulldog and he’s going to continue to be a bulldog for our organization and our team.

Junior First Baseman Kyle Martin
On having a better offensive team this season
I feel like our team all together is more in sync and our hitters are the same way. I feel like one through nine can hit any pitch at any time. They can hit for power, they can hit from gap to gap, and they can do whatever they need to do. We’ve focused a lot more on getting runners on and getting over and we’ve done a great job of that so far.

On seeing the ball
I’m still trying to figure out my timing and still trying to get everything going. My main objective for the weekend was to get everything working and I just kept trying to hit the ball up the middle.

Freshman Pitcher Wil Crowe
On his first college start
I just felt good to get out there for the first time. I just wanted to do my best and help the team win. I felt like I had some good stuff, I’m just trying to do my best. Just throw strikes and command the zone. I don’t have to worry about too much.

On feeling more comfortable as the game went on
I felt like everything was calming down. I lost a little bit of the butterflies and just went our there and tried to do my best.
