  • Head Coach Steve Spurrier: Improves to 179-68-2 (.723) as a collegiate head coach, 37-28 in his fifth year at South Carolina. He is now 13-5 all-time against Georgia, including a 2-4 mark at South Carolina.
  • Records: South Carolina improves to 2-0, 1-0 in SEC play; Georgia falls to 1-1, 0-1 in the SEC. The Gamecocks are now 15-46-2 against Georgia, including an 8-19-2 mark in Columbia.
  • In SEC Openers: In 19 years as a member of the Southeastern Conference, South Carolina is 8-11 in league openers. 16 of those 19 games have come against Georgia.

OFFENSIVE NOTES

  • Marcus Lattimore carried the load for South Carolina, gaining 182 yards on 37 carries, setting a career high-water mark in only the second game of his collegiate career. He also equaled his output from the Southern Miss game with two rushing touchdowns.
  • Lattimore’s 182 yards marked the most by a Gamecock since Cory Boyd rushed for 160 against Tennessee on Oct. 27, 2007. It marks the 15th-best rushing game by a Carolina player in school history. The last time Carolina had a 100-yard rusher was Kenny Miles vs. Clemson last season (114 yards).
  • Lattimore’s touchdown on the game’s opening drive marked Carolina’s first time to score on its first possession since the win over Florida Atlantic in 2009 (Brian Maddox).
  • Alshon Jeffery had 100+ receiving yards for the second straight game and the fifth time in his career. He caught 7 passes for 103 yards today. He is now 28 yards away from 1,000 for his career.
  • Alshon Jeffery had a 40-yard reception in the third quarter, marking his second consecutive game with a reception of 40 yards or more. He had a 46-yard reception against USM in last week’s season opener.
  • South Carolina’s game-opening scoring drive lasted 16 plays for 79 yards in 8:02. It was the longest scoring drive by time in the Steve Spurrier era at South Carolina, while the number of plays was the second-longest scoring drive under Spurrier.
  • Marcus Lattimore had 119 total yards at halftime: 21 carries for 103 yards and one reception for 16 yards. Lattimore ran for two touchdowns in the first half, matching his first half TD total of Carolina’s game last week.
  • Stephen Garcia: 12-for-17, 165 yards passing. He is now 10-8 as a starter for South Carolina.
  • South Carolina attempted 52 rushes, the second most in the Steve Spurrier era (58 vs. Clemson in 2009).
  • 100-100: With Lattimore’s 182 rushing yards and Jeffery’s 103 through the air, it’s the first time for a 100-yard rusher and 100-yard receiver in the same game since Jeffery and Kenny Miles pulled off the feat vs. Vanderbilt last year. In fact, it happened three times last season (FAU, Kentucky, Vanderbilt).

DEFENSIVE NOTES

  • Georgia’s 6 points were the fewest allowed by Carolina to a Bulldog team since a 2-0 South Carolina victory in 1904. The Bulldogs had scored at least 7 points in every game in the series since then.
  • Georgia was held to 61 net rushing yards; Carolina is now 15-2 under Steve Spurrier when holding an opponent under 100 yards on the ground. It marks the second straight week to keep an opponent under 100; Southern Miss had 67 rushing yards last week.
  • Devin Taylor had two sacks in today’s game, a 7-yard sack in the second quarter and another on the final play of the game, moving him to four in his career.
  • Stephon Gilmore returned a Washaun Ealey fumble 13 yards. DeVonte Holloman forced the Ealey fumbled at the South Carolina 1-yard line with 3:30 remaining in the 3rd quarter. It was Gilmore’s third career fumble recovery (FAU, Clemson ’09) and Holloman’s first career forced fumble.
  • DeVonte Holloman has forced both opponent turnovers so far this season. He intercepted a pass against USM and forced the fumble against Georgia. Holloman also matched a career high with 7 tackles, equaling his total from last week’s game vs. Southern Miss.
  • Josh Dickerson equaled a career high with 7 tackles in today’s game, matching his output vs. FAU in 2009.

SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES

  • Chris Culliver moved to fourth all-time in SEC history in kickoff return yards with 69 yards on three returns today. He now stands at 2,279 on his career, 16 ahead of Vanderbilt’s Mark Johnson.
  • Chris Culliver’s three returns today gives him 97 for his career, moving him past Kentucky’s Derek Abney and LSU’s Domanick Davis to third all-time in SEC history. He is 10 away from second place, and 15 away from becoming the league’s all-time leader.
  • PK Spencer Lanning attempted a career-long 51-yard field goal with 11:12 remaining in the second quarter. His previous longest attempt was 47 yards against Tennessee last season. The miss ended his string of three consecutive made field goals.
  • P Spencer Lanning’s first punt of the game went for 53 yards with 7:53 remaining in the second quarter. It was his third consecutive punt over 50 yards after having his two attempts last week go for 52 and 53 yards.
