Gamecock Cheer Tryout Information

Thank you for your interest in joining the Gamecock Cheer team here at the University of South Carolina. We have started the process of selecting our team for the 26-27 school year, but there is still time for you to apply!

The tryout process will first consist of an application and video submissions. A selection committee will be formed to review all submissions and select applicants will be invited to an in-person tryout that is set to take place on April 17 and April 18 in Columbia, South Carolina. Exact location and times will be communicated in the invitations.

All applications and video submissions must be submitted in full via the form below no later than 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 1. Invitations to live tryouts will be sent no later than Saturday, April 4.

  • What are the video requirements for the cheer application? Toggle content

    All videos should be submitted via unlisted YouTube links (preferred), Google Drive Links or other file sharing formats. Please do not use any method that has a file expiration date. Videos will not be accepted via email.

    The only skill requirements are a standing tuck in the fight song for all female applicants and a full up to stretch double down for the All Girl team. Male applicants will need to show unassisted, single base stunts (coed toss skills).

    All skills must be performed on a non-spring surface (dead mat or grass).

    The recommended videos for female applicants are below:

    • A video showing you completing five standing tucks
    • A video showing you completing a triple toe back tuck
    • A video showing you completing two handsprings to a full or layout
    • A video showing you completing your most difficult standing tumbling skill of your choice
    • A video showing you completing your most difficult running tumbling skill of your choice
    • A video showing any stunting highlights you may have (no specific requirements)

  • What should I know if I'm invited to live tryouts? Toggle content

    If you are invited to live tryouts, you will be required to bring with you:

    • A copy of acceptance letter to USC or transfer status confirmation
    • A completed insurance form (download here)
    • A signed waiver (download here)
    • A completed preparticipation physical history form (download here)
    • A copy of the front and back of your insurance card

    Attire for the live tryouts is:

    • Females: Attire should be fitted for safety (tanks, sports bras, etc) and cheer shoes must be worn. No jewelry allowed.
    • Males: Athletic clothing with athletic or cheer shoes must be worn. No jewelry allowed.
