COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina softball team will host Georgia Southern in its first home game of the 2002 season. The doubleheader will be at 3 p.m. on Wed., Feb. 13 at Beckham Field. This will mark the 38th meeting for the Gamecocks and the Eagles.

“It will be good to play at home, especially after facing some good teams like we faced last weekend in Tallahassee,” said head coach Joyce Compton. “We hope to work and improve on our defense in these next few games and learn to take each at-bat individually.”

The Gamecocks have never lost to Georgia Southern and lead the series 37-0. The Eagles are led by first year coach Natalie Poole and are currently 0-4 on the season.

Senior Megan Matthews could also move up on some of the record book lists during the game against the Eagles. She is currently tied for first place in appearances with 155, and an appearance on Wednesday will make her the sole record holder. She also just needs four innings to become the all-time leader in innings pitched. She has 886.2 and the record is 890.0, which was set by Angie Lear from 1988-91.

The Georgia Southern game is also “After School Promotion Night”. All Gamecock fans 18 & under will be able to attend the game for just $1.
