COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina earned its second SEC softball honor as the Southeastern Conference named freshman pitcher Aleca Johnson SEC Pitcher of the Week. The Seneca, S.C. native went 3-0 during the week of April 1 as she picked up a win against Tennessee and two wins against Auburn.

Johnson’s three wins led USC to a perfect 6-0 record last week and vaulted them into first place in the SEC Eastern Division. Johnson came in for relief in three games and pitched 8.2 innings, gave up three hits and struck out 13 batters without allowing a run.

In all three contests, the opposing team had runners in scoring position and twice the bases were loaded and she did not allow a run. Johnson saved USC from a one out-bases loaded situation against the Lady Vols and a bases loaded jam with no outs against Auburn.

For the season, the Seneca H.S. graduate is 6-1 with two saves in 15 appearances and has a 1.91 ERA.
