LEXINGTON, KY- Four different Gamecocks posted double-digit kills as the 17th ranked South Carolina volleyball team moved to 10-1 on the year and 4-1 in SEC competition with a 3-1 defeat of the Kentucky Wildcats tonight in Lexington, KY. Game scores were 20-30, 30-24, 30-22 and 30-20.

Nadia Sefferovich finished with a match-high 16 kills, while Berna Dwyer had 13, Yajaira Cadet had 12, and Cally Plummer added 10.

Defensively, Cadet posted a double double. In addition to her 12 kills, she also had10 digs. Milica Perovic led the way with 13 digs, while Bridget White posted 10. Setter Megan Hosp had a season high 59 assists as the Gamecocks rebounded from the opening game loss to win the next three straight.

In the opening game, the Gamecocks only hit .029 to Kentucky’s .355. Dwyer led the way offensively with three kills, while Plummer, Sefferovich and Mariana Branquinho each had two.

The Gamecocks turned it around in the second game, bolting out to an 11-6 lead. Kentucky would tie the game at 11, but a Cadet kill gave Carolina the lead again at 12-11. Kentucky would cut Carolina’s lead to 26-24, but Carolina held on to win 30-24, ending the game with a Plummer service ace. Cadet and Sefferovich each had six kills in the game, while Sam Alban had four.

Game three began with both teams exchanging the lead several times before Carolina took a 9-7 lead. The Carolina lead grew to 15-9 before Kentucky called timeout to stop the bleeding. After the timeout, however, the Gamecocks picked right back up where they left off, winning 12 of the next 20 points to take a 26-18 lead, leading to another Kentucky timeout.

Carolina won the next four points, the game winner coming on Sefferovich’s 12th kill of the night to give Carolina a 30-22 win. Dwyer led the way in game three with five kills as Carolina hit .206 for the game, and held Kentucky to a -.032 percentage.

The fourth game started with Carolina taking the early lead and never looking back to win 30-20.

Carolina travels to Knoxville on Sunday to take on Tennessee at 2:00 p.m.
