Columbia, SC – Putting two on the first team and two on the second team, the University of South Carolina, ranked No. 20, placed four volleyball players on the All-SEC team for the second straight year. The foursome – Cally Plummer, Megan Hosp, Nadia Sefferovich and Berna Dwyer – are all juniors. USC will tangle with Tennessee, in Knoxville, Friday, Nov. 17 in the first round of the SEC Tournament.

Junior right side hitter Cally Plummer makes the All-SEC first team for the third straight year. Plummer is in the top 10 of two categories in overall matches in the SEC: No. 7 in kills (3.64 per game) and No. 3 in aces (.53 pg). In SEC matches Plummer is seventh in aces (.42 pg). Plummer, a native of Indian River, MI, leads the team in kills (273) and service aces (40) in overall matches. In SEC matches, Plummer is second in kills (151) and first in aces (20). She also leads the team in digs in SEC (127) and overall (194) matches.

“Cally has committed herself 110% to being the best she can be on the court,” said USC Head Coach Kim Christopher. “She has developed into a very good all-around player that has a good understanding of the game and her role as captain. Cally has earned the respect from the league coaches that she is a player that has to be contained when preparing to compete against us.”

Junior setter Megan Hosp is also a member of the All-SEC first team – with Hosp making it for the second straight year. Hosp, a native of Pasadena, CA, leads the team in assists (SEC: 531, Overall: 871) and is second in digs in both SEC (109) and overall (190) matches. In overall matches, Hosp is seventh in the SEC with 11.61 assists per game and seventh in SEC matches at 11.06 per game.

“Megan is a determined athlete that competes hard,” said Christopher. “She has matured into a setter that has a good strategic thought process and temperament when running the offense. I am glad that the other SEC coaches recognize that Megan is one of the best setters in the league as I do.”

Junior middle blocker Berna Dwyer, a member of the All-SEC second team, collects All-SEC honors for the third straight year. Dwyer, a Tucson, AZ native, was a first team member in 2000 and was a member of the second team in 1999. In SEC matches, Dwyer is second in total blocks (29) and is third on the team in kills (109). In overall matches, Dwyer is third in kills(129), third in aces (25) and second in total blocks (51).

“Berna is the player on our team that can do everything well,” said Christopher. “She is versatile and accepts her role with ease and confidence. To be successful, every team has to have a player like Berna.”

Junior outside hitter Nadia Sefferovich, who transferred to Carolina last year from Arizona, rounds out USC’s talented foursome, being tabbed for All-SEC second team honors. Sefferovich, a Tucson, AZ native, is eighth in aces in overall matches with .41 per game in the SEC. In SEC matches she is eighth in aces with .40 per game. Sefferovich leads the team in kills in SEC matches with 152 and is second in kills overall with 242. Sefferovich is second in SEC matches in aces with 19 and second in overall matches with 31. She is third on the team in overall matches with 181 digs and third in SEC matches with 98 digs.

“Nadia made a commitment to be a good all-around player and we are now seeing that commitment pay off,” said Christopher. “She is an exceptional athlete that is confident in her abilities and each week we have seen her get stronger and more determined. I am glad the other SEC coaches recognize her development.”
