Gamecock Tennis Wins Nine of 11 Matches Friday at So. Intercollegiate

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina women’s tennis team went 5-2 in opening day singles action and a perfect 4-0 in doubles work at the 2001 Southern Intercollegiate, held on the USC campus.

In singles action, Jodi Kenoyer turned in a dominating 6-0, 6-0 thrashing of Wofford’s Katie Coleman in the A-2 draw. Gamecock junior Catherine Brown had no troubles with Winthrop’s Renata Czeros, winning 6-0, 6-1. Carolina freshman Magda Wojdylo was also a winner, topping Erin Johnson of Western Carolina 6-0, 6-0.

In the A-1 draw, senior Lynn-Yin Tan beat Western Carolina’s Kristin Munn 6-1, 6-1 in the opening round, but lost a second round match to Armstrong Atlantic’s Zsofia Golopencza 6-3, 6-1. Carolina’s Jennifer Radman also split a pair of matches Friday, winning in the consolation round over Tennessee’s Breanna Kray 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles action, Carolina was a perfect four-for-four Friday afternoon. The team of Kenoyer/Tan beat Winthrop’s Trunkos/Czeros 8-2 in the A draw while Katarina Markovski and Wojdylo beat Coastal Carolina’s Kidd/Bajrambasic 8-2. If both of those Carolina teams win Saturday, they will meet in the A draw championship match set for Sunday at 12:00 noon.

In the B draw, Radman and Tamara Sutton teamed to down Western Carolina’s Fitzpatrick/Zalinski 8-2 while the Gamecocks’ Brown and Audrey George won in the C draw, 8-1 over Western’s King/Munn.

Saturday action begins at 9:00 a.m. at both the Maxcy Gregg and Sam Daniel Tennis Centers on the USC campus. Doubles action is scheduled to start around 3:00 p.m. at both sites. Results will again be available at the conclusion of play on the official website for Gamecock athletics, www.uscsports.com.
