COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina’s first team offense and defense dominated its reserves Saturday in a 53-48 Spring Game that culminated the Gamecocks’ 2002 spring football practice.

While the score appeared close in the final statistical box, the starters actually outpointed the backups 78-6. The White team was spotted 10 points before the game began, then had seven more points added to its total prior to the beginning of the second quarter.

The Garnet was leading 42-17 at the half, only to have the score reversed at the beginning of the second half. Dondrial Pinkins, who moved over from the White team to the Garnet squad in the second half, scored the game-winning touchdown on a three-yard run with 35 seconds remaining.

The Gamecock starting offense piled up 615 total yards, 282 yards rushing and 333 yards passing. Starting quarterback Corey Jenkins looked sharp, completing 11 of 18 passes for 245 yards and four touchdowns. The rising senior from Columbia also ran the ball eight times for 91 yards. Jenkins’ favorite target was wide receiver Andrea Gause, who totaled four receptions for 149 yards and two touchdowns, including an 80-yard bomb from Jenkins early in the fourth quarter.
