Charlotte, N. C. – Seniors Ryan Stocking and Joey Worthen combined for the game-winning goal in the 117th minute to defeat Charlotte 1-0 in overtime. USC improves to 3-1, while the 49ers dropped to 1-2-2.

Socring his second goal of the season,Worthen headed the ball just past 49er goalkeeper, Lucas Mackanos, to give USC their third victory of the season. Michael Bachmeyer, recording two saves, posted his second shutout of the season.

After 90 minutes of play South Carolina dominated the match, outshooting the 49ers 10-5. USC would enter overtime, deadlocked in a scoreless tie.

The battle on the field became physical in the second half with three yellow cards issued. South Carolina’s Jordan Quinn was carded at 55:01, while 49ers J.J. Huffhines (58:20) and Mazen Al Tayeh (80:19) also received yellow cards. Two more yellow cards would be issued in overtime. Chris Wargin received Charlotte’s third yellow card and Jonathan Rosenberg was issued the Gamecocks’ second.

A total of 41 fouls were committed with USC posting 19 and Charlotte recording 22.

The Gamecocks return home on Sunday, Sept. 23 to host No. 24 Wake Forest at 2:00 p.m. To thank the fans for their support, the men’s soccer team will be available for autographs after the matchup between the Gamecocks and the Demon Deacons.
