uscsports.com brings you insight on South Carolina volleyball players that you might not have known about them before. Today, we sat down with Megan Hosp, the Gamecocks junior setter from Pasadena. Calif. Hosp discusses volleyball, sports agents, and why getting dressed in the morning was a difficult chore

How does a California girl end up in South Carolina?

I took all of my visits to Southern schools, and I came to USC on an official visit. I went to a football game, and the support the fans had for their teams was amazing. I knew that this is where I wanted to go to college.

We were in the Atlanta airport when you saw your picture in Sports Illustrated. Talk about that.

We were in the airport coming home from Ole Miss, and we went into one of the newsstands, and I opened up Sports Illustrated, and there I was! Everyone told me I was going to be in the “Faces in the Crowd,” but I didn’t believe them. I never thought it would happen.

You went to an all girls high school. Did it feel weird sitting in class with guys when you first got here?

(Laughs uncontrollably) I went to an all-girls catholic high school, and when I got here, it was weird at first, but I enjoyed sitting next to guys. The biggest problem I had here at first was trying to figure out what I was going to wear everyday, since I had to wear a uniform every day of my life.

What is the biggest difference between L.A. and Columbia?

The pace of life is so much faster back home. I like it here because everybody is more relaxed.

Do you really want to be a sports agent?

I’ve never wanted to sit behind a desk. I want to go out and do something active. I love sports, and I want to go through business school and become a sports agent. It is something that I have always wanted to do.

When did you start playing volleyball?

I started playing in the fifth grade. I went with some friends who were playing, and I really enjoyed it, and I have been playing ever since.

After graduation, do you want to stay here or go back to the west coast?

I want to go back west. That is where I came from, and I want to live there.

Favorite southern food?

I know this isn’t a food, but I LOVE sweet tea. Back home, when I ordered it, I would have to put sweetener in it, but now I don’t have to.

What do you like about your teammates?

We all have the same goal of winning. That is all we care about. We don’t have to be best friends, we all just want to win.

Your family likes the east coast, don’t they?

Well, my mother was born and raised on Long Island, NY,and my brother lives in Boston. We took family vacations in the east when I was younger, so we enjoy it. My brother is a city person, anyway.

How did you get the nickname “Hollywood?”

Trina (Assistant coach Smith) gave me that name. Being from L.A. it kind of fits. I guess it’s because I am a “showy” type of person.
