The South Carolina women’s golf team posted a 302 to jump to fourth place in the Second Annual Dodge ACC/SEC Invitational Shootout. Their two day score of 611 puts them only 13 strokes behind leader Florida (598) at the par-71, 5937 yard Raven Course and at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.

Gamecock All-American and 2001 SEC Champion Kristy McPherson shot the lowest of any golfer in the second round with a one-under-par 70, and took over the leader board as she is now one-under-par (141) for the tournament. Meanwhile, fellow Gamecock Adrienne Gautreaux shot a one-over-par 72 to jump from ninth to second place as she has a four-over-par 146. Kory Thompson and Raetta Laakkonen, who are both tied for 30th place after shooting 160 the past two days. Rounding out the South Carolina contingent are Kacy Thompson (T46, 165) and Sarah Kidd (T48, 167).

The Gators retained the top spot in the team competition after shooting a 304. Mississippi State and Wake Forest are both tied for second with 609. North Carolina is now in fifth place (615), followed by Furman (620) in sixth, Alabama (621) in a close seventh, and Florida State, the host team in eighth (636). North Carolina State (645) is only nine strokes behind the Seminoles, followed by Kentucky (646) and Maryland (672).

First round leader Darby Sligh of Alabama shot a 22-over-par 93 in the second round and dropped into a tie for 33rd place.

The Southeastern Conference held the conference lead over the Atlantic Coast Conference. Led by the Gators and Mississippi State, the SEC has three teams in the top five, and four in the top eight. Wake Forest leads the ACC, who has two teams in the top five (Wake Forest and North Carolina).

The tournament concludes Sunday with a shotgun start at 8:00 p.m. Auburn which won the team title last season, and Celeste Troche of Auburn, who won the individual championship, are not participating in this year’s event.
