GREENVILLE, S.C. – Three South Carolina women’s tennis players won flight championships as play concluded Sunday at the 2001 Furman Fall Classic at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville.

Senior Tamara Sutton and juniors Kathy Boyanovich and Jodi Kenoyer each claimed flight championship honors in the Gamecocks’ first action of the fall campaign.

In flight seven, Sutton downed fellow Gamecock Magda Wojdyto in a grueling three-set match, 2-6,6-1,6-3. Junior Kathy Boyanovich toppled Vanderbilt’s Kelly Schmandt 5-7,6-1,2-0 (def.) to win flight three while Jodi Kenoyer won all three matches in her first event as a Gamecock, beating Clemson’s Laurence Jayet 3-6,6-4,6-2 in flight five.

In consolation action, Catherine Brown beat Wisconsin’s Alise Cogger 6-4,6-2 for fifth place in flight six.

Carolina’s Katarina Markovski and Lynn-Yin Tan both placed second in their respective flights.

The Gamecocks are back in action next weekend in Columbia as they prepare to host the Lady Gamecock Fall Classic October 5-7.
