South Carolina junior Cally Plummmer and Megan Hosp were both named to the All-Region team today for the Southeast. Both were also first-team All-SEC honorees as well.

It is the second straight year the duo has been named to the All-SEC first team and All-Region team. South Carolina ended its season with a 3-1 loss at North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Touranment – its fifth appearance under USC Head Coach Kim Christopher. They put together a 20-6 record with it being the Gamecocks seventh 20-win season under Christopher.

Junior right side hitter Cally Plummer makes the All-region first team for the third straight year. Plummer is in the top 10 of two categories in overall matches in the SEC: No. 7 in kills and No. 3 in aces. In SEC matches Plummer is seventh in aces. Plummer, a native of Indian River, MI, led the team in kills and service aces in overall matches. In SEC matches, Plummer was second in kills and first in aces. She also leads the team in digs in SEC and overall matches.

“Cally was an outstanding leader this year. She committed herself 110% to being the best she could be on the court,” said USC Head Coach Kim Christopher. “She has developed into a very good all-around player that has a good understanding of the game and her role as captain. Cally has earned the respect from the region coaches that she is a player that has to be contained when preparing to compete against us.”

Junior setter Megan Hosp is also a member of the All-Region team – with Hosp making it for the second straight year. Hosp, a native of Pasadena, CA, leads the team in assists and is second in digs in both SEC and overall matches. In overall matches, Hosp was seventh in the SEC and seventh in SEC matches.

“Megan is a determined athlete that competes hard,” said Christopher. “She has matured into a setter that has a good strategic thought process and temperament when running the offense. I am glad that the other region coaches recognize that Megan is one of the best setters in the league as I do.”
