GREENVILLE, S.C. – Six South Carolina women’s tennis players, Katarina Markovski, Kathy Boyanovich, Lynn-Yin Tan, Jodi Kenoyer, Tamara Sutton and Magda Wojdyto each advanced to flight championship singles matches at the 2001 Furman Fall Classic in Greenville.

Singles competition concludes Sunday morning at the Mickel Tennis Center.

Flight seven, dominated by Carolina, will have an all-Gamecock championship match as Wojdyto and Sutton will face one another for the first time ever in Sunday’s title match.

Sutton advanced by virtue of a 6-2,6-2 win over Clemson’s Anna Dolinska while Wojdyto beat Furman’s Shellie Cochran 6-4,6-4.

Markovski scored a win over Furman’s Mary Kovarik in straight sets, 6-4,6-4. The senior from Valjevo, Yugoslavia will face Vanderbilt’s No. 100 Kate Burson on Sunday for the flight two crown.

In flight three, junior Kathy Boyanovich advanced to the title match with a 6-3,6-2 win over Furman’s Natalie The.

Senior Lynn-Yin Tan won a three-set match in flight four, topping Furman’s Mary Hagood 4-6,6-1,6-3 Saturday. Tan will face North Carolina’s Leigh Bairos Sunday.

Newcomer Jodi Kenoyer beat Annie Menees of SEC-rival Vanderbilt 6-4,7-6(3) to move in to the flight five championship against Clemson’s Lawrence Jayet.

No. 51 Jennifer Radman beat No. 95 Megan Dunigan of Furman in straight sets, 6-4,6-1, in flight one consolation action. Radman will face North Carolina’s No. 36 Kate Pinchbeck for 5th place Sunday morning. Junior Catherine Brown will face Wisconsin’s Alise Cogger for 5th place in flight six. Brown beat Middle Tennessee’s Tanja Buchheim 6-0,6-0 Saturday.

Concluding doubles action, the Gamecocks’ No. 45 Tan/Kenoyer claimed 5th place in flight two with an 8-5 win over Middle Tennessee’s Preiss/Gridling.

Also, Catherine Brown and Magda Wojdyto took 3rd place in the third flight after their thrilling 9-8(4) win over Furman’s Hagood/Cochran.

The team of Audrey George and Tamara Sutton won the fourth flight, winning their match today 8-1 over a mixed team from Wisconsin and Middle Tennessee.
