Columbia, S.C. – The 2002 World Cup roster was announced today on ESPN Sports Center with two Gamecocks making the final cut.

Forwards Clint Mathis and Josh Wolff, teammates wearing the garnet in black in 1995-97, were both named to the 23-man roster by U.S. Head Coach Bruce Arena. This is the first World Cup for both Mathis and Wolff.

“The opportunity to represent your country on the full national team is the ultimate achievement for any players,” commented USC Head Coach Mark Berson. “There is no higher recognition. We, at the University of South Carolina, take pride in the fact that Clint and Josh played here and we wish them the best in the World Cup. They offer a great example for future players to follow.”

Mathis currently plays for the Major League Soccer’s New York/New Jersey Metro Stars, while Wolff wears the Chicago Fire jersey.

The World Cup will be held from May 31 to June 30 in South Korea and Japan.
