Miami:
Head Coach Jim Morris: “First of all we gave a great club too many runs early. They have an outstanding club and when you give a club like that ten runs it’s very difficult. We had a chance and I credit our guys, we kept battling to the end. It’s a three game series and you can’t give up.”
On Sarge Frye Field: “It’s definitely a hitters ballpark. Both pitchers have to pitch. You can’t give up in this ballpark.”
Second Baseman/Shortstop Javy Rodriguez: “We came back strong from the fourth inning on. Our guys are up for the challenge. We have been all year. I don’t think anyone on our team gave up. We will never give up again. I think that if we play well we can win tommorrow.
South Carolina:
Head Coach Ray Tanner: “We’re very happy to win the first game against a team as great as Miami. We were very fortunate…we came out of the blocks. We were fortunate enough to hold them off. I thought Gary Bell was sharp early and Aaron Rawl did a great job battling for us. I didn’t have any doubt that they were going to come at us. I know that our approach will be good and we will do our best to win that game tommorrow.”
Rightfielder Steve Thomas: “I think it’s always important to jump out early. We know it’s no cake-walk from here. Miami is a great team and we want to just go out tomorrow and play as hard as we can. And hopefully get a win.”
