Berlin, Germany – South Carolina swimmer Istvan Bathazi earned a fifth place finish in the 200 individual medley at the European Championships. Bathazi finished with a time of 2:00.92 in the 200-meter event. Bathazi and former Gamecock All-American Zsolt Gaspar are each competing in the event for their native country Hungary.

Bathazi holds the top times in Carolina history in both the 200 yard and 400 yard individual medley. Bathazi finished ninth at the 2002 NCAA Championships in the 400 IM, winning the consolation final with a personal best 3:45.76, breaking his own school record he set as a freshman. Bathazi will return to Carolina for his junior year. The Gamecocks open the season on Oct. 18 vs. Charleston.
