COLUMBIA, S.C. – With split squads competing at the Carolina Fast Times and at the East Tennessee State Invitational, South Carolina garnered seven first-place finishes and had three athletes qualify for the 2003 NCAA Indoor Championships.

At the Carolina Fast Times Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., Corey Taylor recorded an automatic qualifying time as he won the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.74. Kenneth Ferguson finished runner-up to Taylor, running a provisional time of 7.95. Ferguson also finished second in the 400m dash with a time of 49.01.

The South Carolina 4x400m relay recorded another win with a time of 3:17.29. In the 200m dash, Martin Jackson finished first with a time of 21.82. Meanwhile, Chris Steddum won the pole vault with a mark of 16’6.75. Greig Cryer finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 49’7 while Tony Allmond was runner up in the long jump, recording a jump of 23’5.5.

On the women’s side, Miki Barber recorded a provisional qualifying time of 7.41 as she won the 60m dash. Erica Whipple finished third with a time of 7.50. Shevon Stoddart finished third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.74 while Rashida Abdul-Malik finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 38’7.75. Yet another Gamecock to receive a third place finish was Nicole Kendrick, in the shot put, with a mark of 50′ 7.25.

At the ETSU Invitational, William Emase won the 800m unseeded run with a time of 4:20.54 while Jenny Lake won the 3000m run with a time of 10:20.60.

The Gamecocks next compete at the Florida Invitational on February 9 in Gainesville, Fla.
