Henderson, Nev. – Senior Danielle Quinones had the hot bat for South Carolina (6-2) as she went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and three RBI in the Gamecocks 6-0 rout over UNLV (3-7) at the Las Vegas Invitational. Pitcher Stacey Johnson improved to 3-0 as she pitched her second shutout, first complete game shutout, of the season. Johnson also recorded a season high nine strikeouts. USC recorded a season high 13 hits.

USC scored its first run of the tournament when Quinones hit her second double of the game and drove in Kim Evans, who pinch ran for Ashley Smith in the fourth.

The Gamecocks posted a three run inning in the sixth as Carolina hit four consecutive singles, including a two-RBI base hit by Debralee Troesh. Carolina’s final two runs of the game came in the top of the seventh when Quinones hit a two-run homer over the left field fence, her first of the season.

Other hot hitters for the Gamecocks included junior Amber Curtis who went 3-for-5, Nancy Crane went 3-for-4 and Debralee Troesh went 2-for-4.

Now 1-1 at the tournament, USC returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they play No. 23 Oregon State at 2 p.m. and No. 10 Cal State Fullerton at 7 p.m.
