Columbia, S.C. – The Amateur Softball Association and USA Softball recently announced its 2003 National Team Camp tryout participants, including nine additional participants. Gamecock Danielle Quinones was among the nine additional players invited to the USA National Team tryout camp June 4-8. The tryouts will be at the ARCO Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. Two USA Softball National Teams will be selected from 50 participants at the camp for international competition this summer.

“I was overwhelmed at first when I received the invitation to tryout,” said Quinones. “It is an honor and I am very excited about getting a chance to try and further my softball career.”

Quinones is the Gamecocks starting third baseman and is the first Gamecock to receive a tryout invitation since Trinity Johnson did in 1999. She currently leads the team in hitting with a .349 average. A native of La Puente, Calif., Quinones is second on the team in home runs with seven and in RBI’s with 34. In SEC play, she leads the conference in doubles with 10.

The National Team will represent the USA at the U.S. Cup in Honolulu, HI, June 19-22, the Canada Cup in Surrey, B.C. Canada, July 4-13 and the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Aug. 5-Aug. 14. The USA Softball Elite Team will compete in the U.S. Cup as well as the Japan Cup in Yokohama, Japan, July 18-20.
