Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s soccer team had 14 members named to the latest SEC Academic Honor Roll based on grades from the 2001-02 academic calendar. The 14 players named to the honor list is the highest total in the history of the South Carolina women’s program, besting the previous mark of 13 set in the 2000 season.

The honorees named to the academic list are: Lydia Bienias, Erica Bowie, Melinda Carter, Corine Creech, Ashley Gosnell, Kelty Hudson, Melissa Hutson, Alison Jarrow, Becky Leeper, Kanika McAlpine, Kristen Schreiber, Jessica Ward, Ashley Williams and Stacey Zelek.

This marks the fourth time that Bienias, Carter, and Ward have been named to the honor list by the SEC the third time for Creech, Hudson, Leeper and McAlpine and second time for Schreiber. This is the first time honored on the SEC Academic Honor Roll for Bowie, Hutson, Jarrow, Williams and Zelek.

McAlpine was named Verizon Academic All-American in November of 2002 and is currently a finalist for the Boyd McWhorter Scholar Athlete of the Year award. Leeper also earned national recognition as a Verizon Academic All-District member.
