May 16, 2003

It is about 7:30 p.m. at day two of the SEC Championships and I have completed my heptathlon events after finishing my three events this evening. I am always disappointed with my results because I always want to set personal records when I compete. Our team is like that.

The rain delay yesterday meant that we didn’t get back to our hotel until after 11 p.m. When we got back, both Chelsea Hammond and I sat down with Coach Dee (Delethea Quarles) and talking about how we were doing and how we were feeling. After that we prayed together about the meet and went to get rested for today.

After breakfast this morning at the hotel we rested in our rooms before heading to the track. We also spent time getting treatment from Joe (Lemery), our trainer, and Aaron (Aviani), our massage therapist, as they are very important to our success and preparation. We got to the track at about 2:30 p.m. to prepare for the first event, which started at five o’clock.

Even though I did not do as well as I wanted in competition today, our teammates are very supportive and push us to do our best. Chelsea is especially supportive since we compete in the heptathlon together. We help each other stay focused and she is someone who keeps others loose.

Now it is time to finish my treatment and go back to the hotel to get plenty of rest for tomorrow. I want to feel very good when I run tomorrow and my goal is to PR in the hurdles. That is something I want to do for the team to help us repeat as SEC Champs. If it is to be … it’s up to me. Who can? I can. What’s to do? Let’s do it!
