COLUMBIA, S.C. – Former South Carolina track star Demetria Washington won the women’s 400m dash at the Norwich Union Classic on Sunday, July 13 in Gateshead, Great Britain. The meet is part of the IAAF Golden League presented by Finish Line.

Washington, who owns a USC record 22 All-American honors, ran a time of 51.29 for the victory. The USC alum is currently the world’s 20th ranked woman in the 400m dash, up 11 spots from the previous week’s listing.

A trio of USC volunteer assistant coaches are also among the world’s best according to the current IAAF rankings. Allen Johnson holds the No. 1 spot in the men’s 110m hurdles while former Gamecock Terrence Trammell is listed 12th. On the women’s side, Melissa Morrison is ranked No. 4 in the 100m hurdles.

The next televised IAAF Golden League event will be Saturday, July 19 at 1 p.m., when ESPN airs the Golden Gala from Rome, Italy.
