Columbia, S.C. – Head softball coach Joyce Compton recently announced the promotion of assistant Angela Thompson and that former Gamecock player Adrianna Baggetta was named second assistant for the 2003-04 season. Thompson replaced former assistant Holly Aprile, who was named an assistant at Pittsburgh back in June. Baggetta served as a volunteer coach during the 2003 season and was named as Carolina’s newest assistant earlier this week.

Working primarily with the pitchers, this will mark Thompson’s fourth season with the Gamecock coaching staff. In three years, Carolina has thrown five no-hitters under Thompson’s direction and the pitching staff has recorded 127 wins.

“I’m excited to have a former player as a member of our staff,” said Compton. “Having Adrianna move from a volunteer to an assistant will allow for continuity within the program. Her knowledge of the game and of the University as both a player and a coach will be valuable to the program.”

Baggetta graduated from Carolina in Dec. 2002 with a bachelor degree in sport and entertainment management. In 2003, Baggetta assisted in all aspects of coaching during her stint as a volunteer coach. The Chantilly, Va. native played for Carolina from 1999-2002. As a senior, Baggetta led the Gamecocks in hitting with a .353 average with six home runs and was named All-SEC and SEC All-Tournament Team.
