JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – South Carolina fired a tournament low 286 Sunday as the Gamecocks finished fifth in the midst of an all-start field of top 25 teams at The Ridges Intercollegiate. The Gamecocks shot 294 Friday, followed by firing a 292 on Saturday before darkness cut the day short. Florida won the team standings with a card of 854, closely followed by Texas Christian with 859.

“We played much better than last week,” said Carolina Head Coach Puggy Blackmon. “We got off to a great start yesterday and let it slip away, but we got off to another great start today. We’re starting to get an indication that we are a pretty solid team.”

Martin Rominger led the way for Carolina as he shot 210 for the three day tournament, finishing Sunday with a -3. The 69 Rominger shot Sunday was a weekend low. Rominger tied with Camilo Villegas of Florida for second place individually.

“It was great to see Martin [Rominger] play well today,” said Blackmon.

Eirik Johansen wasn’t far behind Rominger, as he carded a 214 shooting a -1 (71) Sunday. Johansen finished tied for sixth with Jack Ferguson (Clemson) and Andrew Price (Kansas).

Jason Huguet was third on the team with a 47th place finish, while Alex Hamilton was in 52nd. Nash Elliott and Jake Thompson,playing as an individual, both carded 228 to tie for 66th.

The second and sixth place finishes were the best finishes of the season for Rominger and Johansen. Carolina next competes at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate in Nashville, Tenn., on Sept. 22-23.
