The first period sack of Florida quarterback Chris Leak in the end zone by George Gause was the first safety scored by South Carolina since 1996 when the Gamecocks scored a safety against Central Florida. The sack was the fifth of the season for Gause, which leads the team.
Gause also recovered a Florida fumble in the fourth quarter, his first of the season and his career. The fumble was caused by Lance Laury.
The one yard first period run by Cory Boyd was the fourth touchdown of the season by the freshman tailback. Boyd has three rushing touchdowns and one on a pass reception.
The second period 11 yard sack of Chris Leak by Ricardo Hurley was his first sack of the season. It also was the first career sack for the sophomore defensive end from Greenwood.
The second period recovery of a Florida fumble by Marcus Lawrence was his first of the season and the ninth recovery of an opponents fumble by the Gamecocks.
The attendance of 81,523 increased the season total in Williams-Brice Stadium to 562,767. In seven home games South Carolina has averaged 80,395 fans per game. The remaining home game, against Clemson, should increase 2003 home attendance to more than 640,000.
The 73 yard punt return by Chavez Donnings for a touchdown as time expired in the first half was the longest scoring punt return by South Carolina since Dick Harris returned a punt 77 yards against Georgia Tech in 1971. The Donnings return was the first scoring return of a punt by the Gamecocks since Derek Watson blocked a Florida punt in 2000 and returned it two yards for a touchdown. The Donnings return was his first of the season. He returned one punt each in 2001 and 2002 for a total of 23 yards.
The 64 yard third period punt by Josh Brown was his longest of the season . It was the longest Gamecock punt since Tyler Dean had a 79 yard punt in the 2002 Outback Bowl. Brown’s previous long punt was for 51 yards.
The four yard fourth period run by Dondrail Pinkins was his fifth touchdown of the season. Pinkins also has scored a two point conversion. Pinkins has eight career touchdowns.
Daccus Turman rushed for 122 yards on 20 attempts. His second triple digit rushing game of the season was one yard shy of the 123 yards he gained against Virginia. South Carolina has four triple digit individual rushing games this season. The other two were by Demetris Summers, against Alabama Birmingham and Tennessee.
